I get the feeling that someone like Bernie Sanders might be more "Republican" on certain issues like gun control if it weren't for the issue with specialization. People who care about gun control REALLY care about gun control and it doesn't make sense risking alienating yourself from your party taking on a niche that's already being filled.

I'm really curious about your party. What was the platform? That's another very difficult problem to solve; to a certain extent politicians will probably always have to make promises they can't realistically keep. Our electoral system certainly doesn't help. Regardless of whether or not candidates actually go through with their promises I'll probably continue voting for the same people since the alternative is usually directly opposed to my political goals. Failing to do anything substantial about global warming is not as bad as actively exacerbating it and so on.
