I like what Niel had to say, but I understand what you're saying. My focus was on reaching white people as effectively as possible, and making myself sound like the good guy did not matter to me very much. If you think it's manipulative or confusing, that's a different matter. I explain the choices I made in a separate article; I think that engaging with people outside the social justice sphere is the most important thing we can do right now to advance BLM and I want to be doing it as effectively and ethically as possible.
