I personally feel quite favorably towards Lhabo Thondup, the current Dalai Lama. Although the institution he was born into is clearly oppressive, he uses his position to support democratic institutions and the sense of a common humanity.

The concept of hell bothers me quite a bit. I do not think that infinite torture is warranted in any case, and it seems most like a Pascal’s mugging more than anything moral.

I don’t think any person is worth emulating entirely 100%. The idea that people need to be perfect for us to consider their ideas bothers me, as does the entire concept of worshipping or glorifying people. I think that it is because people are fallible that democracy and other forms of distributed decision making are the only ones I find acceptable. That being said, a lot of people respect the figure of Jesus deeply and besides advocating for a more complex view of all historical figures I don’t see a need to drag his name through the mud.
